  3.     Legislation will never control scams offered to the public
  4. by telephone swindlers because the crooks will always be a step
  5. ahead (BUSINESS, April 3). Consumers should wise up and stop
  6. being so gullible. Granted, some tricky deals are more creative
  7. and less obvious than others, but it is difficult to be
  8. sympathetic toward those who decide to purchase shares in a
  9. process to convert sand to gold or who give credit-card numbers
  10. freely over the phone. As the saying goes, "Wake up and smell
  11. the coffee!"

  15.     As long as people try to get something for nothing, there
  16. will always be frauds. Why should taxpayer money be spent on
  17. law enforcement to protect those who can't say no?
